In three days, we use this time for presentation. People can choose essay 1 or 2. Most people choose essay 2 because we can create our own major question and we can choose our topic.
However, some people choose their essay 1. There are many kinds of heroes and people explain their journeys. There are Lord of the Ring and Harry Potter. I saw these movies, so it was easy to understand and I can agree with them. Some people use other characters that I have never saw before, so it was interesting to listen their presentation. I can learn more kinds of heroes and characters, so it was good time.
Other people chose second essay and there are many kinds of topics because we could choose our own topics. It was good to listen other people's topics and it was interesting. I also picked second essay, but I was nervous so I think that my presentation was not good.
It was a good time to share other people's thoughts, and I can organize the whole semester, so I like the ending presentation

Ending Presentation
In my ending presentation, I will talk about my essay 2. My major question of essay is that how the character Hancock is a contemporary version of an anti-hero. I think that Hancock shares some characteristics of an anti-hero. In the class, we learned about what an anti-hero is and I think that there are many similarities between Hancock and what we learned in the class. Then I can review anti-heroes from the class and I can analyze another anti-hero character, so I choose this topic for my essay.
I found five similar things between Hancock and a typical anti-hero. First, they do not have a good appearance. Usually anti-heroes do not look good. Hancock is the same. He is dirty and and he looks like a homeless person. Second, they are selfish. Anti-heroes and Hancock are selfish, so they do not care about other people and they just think about themselves only. Third, they have rough attitude. When Hancock and anti-heroes do their works, they do not care about destroying buildings, roads, and hurting other people. In addition, they do not use a nice words. Fourth, there is a turning point. This is not for every anti-hero. However, Hancock has a turning point and Ray helps Hancock to be a good hero. Fifth, they become a good hero. This is also not for every anti-hero. Hancock becomes a good hero, so he tries to be nice to other people and he saves people safely.
I also give some specific examples from the movie, then it can be a good presentation.

• On p. 107, Blabbermouth gives Haroun a piece of feminist advice. She basically says that girls aren’t able to be strong (or heroic) characters because of the ways people stereotype them. Think about contemporary female heroes. Do we have any? Do we value the fact that they are female?

Batman
• Analyze Batman in terms of the three different types of heroes we have discussed (archetypal, tragic and anti-hero). Which type of hero is he? Is it possible that he is multiple types?
I think that Batman is multiple types of hero. He has many factors like archetypal, tragic and anti-hero. First, Batman looks like a archetypal hero. He has strong power to be able to fight with his enemies and he has good weapons. The weapons are pretty new and they are really scientific. In addition, he has a good spiritual guide who helps him and advices him. These things are similar with archetypal heroes.
Second, Batman also has some factors of tragic heroes. He has to kill many enemies to save people's lives, so he feels guilty and he thinks that he is not a hero. In addition, he lost his best friend because of his enemies. He never shows his face to other people, so he always hide his face and he cannot says that he is Batman. It is so sad because he helps many people, but they do not know who is the Batman.
Third, Batman is a kind of anti-hero, too. When he enjoys his life, he is not Batman, so he is not a good man. Notes From Underfround
• Who is the ‘underground man’? What are your first impressions of him?
Underground man is forty years old and he thinks that he is a spiteful man. He has no name in this book, so we just call him 'underground man.' He has a problem with his liver, but he does not go to hospital. In addition, he feels happy when he makes other people to be unhappy. He thinks that he is almost succeeded. He does not have a good manner, and he know that, too. The important thing is that he is an anti-hero person. He does not understand the hero and he thinks that it is not good.

For example, he says that he feels bad when he stays with his servants. In addition, he says that she has a bad smell. It is rude. Compare Luke Skywalker to Beowulf
• What makes them different? Do they share any traits in common? How are they both heroic?
Luke and Beowulf have many similarities because they are heroes. Luke is the hero who saves the princess Leah and fights to against the Galactic Empire. Beowulf is the same person who saves his country and fights to against the dragon and Grendel. In addition, they have special weapons. Luke has a light sword to fight with enemies. Beowulf has a special sword, too, so he uses it for killing Grendel. Both them are good people because they fight for other people.
However, they have some differences. Beowulf has been strong and different from other people since he was born. In addition, he knew that truth, but Luke is different. He did not know about him and one day he found that he was chosen. At first, Luke did not accept the truth, but later he decided to be a hero. Then, he started to train himself and he tried to be strong. On the other hand, Beowulf knew that he was different, so he was ready to do some heroic things.

Wiglaf’s character
Wiglaf was a relative of Beowulf and he was a warrior. He helped Beowulf who was the hero to fight against the dragon. He was brave and strong, so I thought that he was heroic like Beowulf. In addition, he was loyal and fearless, so he could fight with the dragon and he could save his lord. He was willing to die to against the opponents. Beowulf said that Wiglaf had enough things for being the hero, so he was represented as the next hero and the future of the kingdom.
I thought that the best of Wiglaf's character was not having bad ideas. If people had something special talents or power, then they used them for their desiring or benefits. However, Wiglaf used his power to save people and his lord. In addtion, he was brave, so he was ready to die to kill the dragon. It was not hard to decide because he was also human, but he thought other people first. And then, he tried to save them, and it was not for him or his benefits. Therefore, I thought that Wiglaf was heroic like Beowulf.

Beowulf
Beowulf was a perfect hero and he was better than Unferth. Then, Unferth was jealous about abilities of Beowulf and Unferth also wanted to be a hero, but he couldn't. One day, Unferth discussed about the swimming matching between Beowulf and Breca. Beowulf got defeated in the matching, so Unferth tried to tarnish Beowulf’s reputation. However, Beowulf reconized his defeat, so it contributed to his heroism. Heroes need to reconize their faults and defeats, then they will try to work hard and they can improve themselves. Beowulf was the same that he reconized his defeats.

Where do you "belong"?
Where do you not feel like you "belong," even though it might make sense (geographically, culturally, etc.) for you to do so?
What makes the difference?
Sometimes, I feel that I do not belong anywhere. I came in the U.S. about three years ago. Before, I was in Korea, so I was used to Korean culture. However, when I came to the U.S., I started to learn a new culture. Now, I am used to American food, language, and life style, but I did not grow up here, so I do not know and understand your culture totally. I feel that I am a foreigner. On the other hand, when I went to Korea over the summer vacation, I did not feel that I belonged to that society either. I was used to American culture, so I was disoriented. For example, I am one year behind my old friends, so while they were preparing for the SATs, I had just finished my sophomore year. In addition, if I want to go to the markets in Korea, I can walk. However, in the U.S., I need a ride to go anywhere, but I felt uncomfortable asking for a ride. American and Asian's cultures are totally different, so I feel that I am an alien everywhere.

Character in Of Mice and Men
I like Lennie. He was stupid and he forgot everything easily but he was nice and innocent. He killed rats and he hurt other people. He did not know how to treat people and pets, so that is why he got troubles. George always helped Lennie but Lennie also helped George. George was alone, so when he started to take Lennie, George felt better. In addition, Lennie was strong, so he fought with other people instead of George and other farm workers. Lennie did not how to control himself and he could not learn, so he did stupid things and he made troubles. However, he had nice mind and he was a good man. Therefore, I like Lennie in this book.

Define "euthanasia."
Define "euthanasia." Then defend or condemn the practice and explain your opinion.
Euthanasia is killing animals or people who is impossible to live or to be better. I think that it is not bad. For example, animals cannot talk, so if they are sick then we cannot know how much they are suffered. People, who is sick so they cannot wake up, do not anything but they can breath so they need some equipment to keep their lives. Therefore, we do not know their opinion. Some patients wants to die because they cannot wake up and they cannot do anything. In addition, it takes much money for equipments so if people are poor then it will be hard for them. Therefore, I think that euthanasia is okay for people who left and patients and animals.

Why do dreams fail?
In the book "Of Mice and Man," the workers work every day and they earn a few money so it is hard to save money. In addition, some workers spend the money playing cards and buying alcohols. Other workers save the money and they make a plan with the other workers so they save the money together. However, one of them use their all money to play cards then they cannot do their plans. Therefore, most workers do not have dreams because they think it is impossible and they give up easily. In the book "To kill a Mockingbird," there is a slave system so black people cannot get their rights. They have dreams but it is hard to be come true because white people make limits for black people. It is so sad because anyone can have dreams but some workers and black people even do not have dreams. They think they can come true their dreams and they give up easily.

Most people have their own houses because they are important. Main function of house is that people can sleep comfortably. People have to sleep but if they do not have a place then they cannot sleep well. In addition, people have to eat and to clean themselves, and they can do comfortably in their houses. In the house, people can live with their families or friends who love them and wait them. Therefore, the houses are important because there are families and friends who love us and we can sleep, eat and clean ourselves comfortably.

Of Mice and Men Ch 1
I think we make friends because we are lonely. We have family but sometimes we cannot understand each other because of generation difference. We need some people who can understand us and share our thoughts so we make friends to share them. Usually, most friends are similar age with us so we can talk about our worries which we cannot talk to our parents. Then they understand us and advice to us. Sometimes, friends help us to be with us. When we live our lives, we sometimes feel alone. However, if friends stay with us then we feel comfortable and we do not feel alone. Therefore, people need friends to live hard lives.

Romeo and Juliet reflection
“Love and insight is better than love at first sight.” Do you agree or disagree? Why?
I disagree because we do not have to use our brain to love someone. Love needs only the heart. Love at first sight can be a real love. If we use the brain to love then we will can not feel real love.
Was it right for Romeo and Juliet to run off and get married? Or was it foolish? Or both? Explain your response.
I think it was not good because they were young, so they could not live without money, home and so on. In addition, they knew that their families hated each other, so if their parents knew of their marriage then they would fight each other. Therefore, they should have persuaded their parents until they agreed to the marriage.
Was it right for Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves because of their love for each other? Why or why not?
It was a truly wrong choice because death did not solve their problems. They were so selfish because they did not think about their families and their futures. They moved so fast that they did not have time to find out the truth. If they did not commit suicide then they could have saved each other.

Romeo and Juliet Act 1
I read Romeo and Juliet before, but it is still hard to read because of the language. Shakespeare used some old languages so it was hard to understand. However, this time I use cliff complete so I can understand the book easily. In act I, the main point is that Romeo goes to Capulet's party. At first, he loved Rosaline but he saw Juliet and he loves Juliet at first sight. It looks like he loves Juliet's face (her beautiful face). In addition, he already forgets Rosaline. Before he meets Juliet, he said that he loves Rosaline. However, he forgets her and he loves another woman. Therefore, his love looks like not true. In this act, I can see the friends of Romeo. They are Benvolio and Mercutio. Benvolio is a good guy who tries to help Romeo and gives advices. However, Mercutio is not good friend because he always makes fun of Romeo and he is not serious. In the Capulet, the nurse of Juliet always interrupts Romeo and Juliet's time but she knows Juliet well more than Lady Capulet. Therefore, Nurse will help Juliet for her love. Finally, the act I finished at the Capulet's party.
