• On p. 107, Blabbermouth gives Haroun a piece of feminist advice. She basically says that girls aren’t able to be strong (or heroic) characters because of the ways people stereotype them. Think about contemporary female heroes. Do we have any? Do we value the fact that they are female?
There was a famous female hero in France. Her name is Joan of Arc. She was born in eastern France, and she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years war. She was a young girl, but God called her to lead the French army. She did her job well, so French won some important battles. However, she was caught and sold to England. She told them God called her for this war, but they did not believe her because she was a young girl. They thought that she was a crazy girl. Finally, they burned her when she was only 19 years old. Later, they found that she was innocent.
Thus, Joan was a hero who saved France, but when she went to England, no one helped her. In addition, they did not believe her because she is a female. That time, people had some stereotype that women could not be a hero because they were weaker than men. However, Joan saved her country. She was only 19-year-old girl. She was better than kings.
