Batman

• Analyze Batman in terms of the three different types of heroes we have discussed (archetypal, tragic and anti-hero). Which type of hero is he? Is it possible that he is multiple types?

I think that Batman is multiple types of hero. He has many factors like archetypal, tragic and anti-hero. First, Batman looks like a archetypal hero. He has strong power to be able to fight with his enemies and he has good weapons. The weapons are pretty new and they are really scientific. In addition, he has a good spiritual guide who helps him and advices him. These things are similar with archetypal heroes.
Second, Batman also has some factors of tragic heroes. He has to kill many enemies to save people's lives, so he feels guilty and he thinks that he is not a hero. In addition, he lost his best friend because of his enemies. He never shows his face to other people, so he always hide his face and he cannot says that he is Batman. It is so sad because he helps many people, but they do not know who is the Batman.
Third, Batman is a kind of anti-hero, too. When he enjoys his life, he is not Batman, so he is not a good man. He also likes many girls, and he has some parties, so people cannot imagine that he is the Batman. However, if his enemies attack the society, then he changes to Batman and he tries to save people and to prevent his enemies.
Thus, Batman has many characters. He includes several types of heroes such as archetypal, tragic, and anti-hero. During a day, he is a normal human and during a night, he is a hero as Batman. And then, he saves people's lives and prevents enemies for the society.

You have a little confusion around the idea of the anti-hero. Batman is more of an anti-hero in the gruff manner of Rooster Cogburn.

Ra Youn, This is a good blog because you include all of the elements that a hero can be. I agree with you that Batman does fit the criteria to be all of the heroes you described. Another thought to consider Batman as a tragic hero is his sad characteristics. Batman realizes that their is a need to save the of city and people of Gotham. When he is at parties he observes people saying that they believe they do not need Batman anymore. So, this forces Batman to reconsider his position. He realizes that he is saving the city, but at the same time, doing much damage to it and the people because people are dying and the city has to pay millions to fix it up. So, Batman can also be a tragic hero because he has to find a balance to make the people of Gotham want him again. All together, well thought out and good blog.
